today in class we discuss the issue of spectatorship and art.

when you look at this painting, where are you?

whose gaze is this?

are you the spectator of this art or are you merely the spectacle? the art staring straight into you.

are you the object in the middle? are you the painter on the left. but if the painter’s there, who are you? why are they all looking at you?

had the exact same study of this painting in a lecture 2 years ago…. but probably from a different perspective haha… cheers!
